Ziro: 24 young schoolchildren trained in flute and tam-tam music Nuni

The coordination committee for actions to preserve and promote the "Nuni" culture of the municipality of Cassou (province of Ziro), organized on Saturday April 01, 2023 in Sapouy, the restitution ceremony of the training in flute and tam-tam "nuni" music, for the benefit of 24 young schoolchildren.

The training, financed by the Cultural and Tourism Development Fund (FDCT), involved 24 children from 3 villages (Bouyoua, Névry and Ouayou) aged 8 to 10, i.e. 8 children per village, 5 in flute and 3 in tam -tam.

9 trainers provided the supervision which took place in three phases.

The first session considered the immersion phase took place from October 29 to November 1, 2022.

The second session took place from December 26 to 30, 2022 and the last from March 23 to 31, 2023.

The training restitution ceremony took place on Saturday April 1 at the town hall of Sapouy, showing the population the remarkable work carried out by the trainers and the coordination committee.

In a rhythmic harmony to the sound of Nabonon, young dancers, flute players and tam-tam tappers made the courtyard of Cassou town hall vibrate to the satisfaction of the public and culture enthusiasts.

The main objective is to develop the performing arts in the province of Ziro by training young traditional musicians to accompany the dancers already trained.

The head of the coordination committee, Alidou Nigna has made a commitment to continue the training with the learners but also with their comrades.

"To do this, each learner left with a musical instrument to practice at home," he said.

Mr. Nigna also expressed his gratitude to the Cultural and Tourism Development Fund (FDCT) for its crucial support in the implementation of activities.

Finally, he wanted the partnership between them to be sustainable over a medium-term programme.

The vice-president of the Cassou special delegation, Sadouna Diasso, expressed his gratitude to all the actors who work in the cultural sector within the municipality.

He congratulated and encouraged the coordination committee and the "Ken dun lé" Association for the development of the village of Névry, for their efforts to perpetuate this part of the Nuni culture.

The representative of the High Commissioner of Ziro Province, Bibiane Kayama, welcomed this initiative to preserve cultural heritage for the younger generation.

She urged beneficiaries and trainers never to break the chain of transmission
