Youth leader held over Museveni signatures

KABALE.

A youth leader in Kabale District has been arrested by police on allegations that he was unlawfully collecting voter signatures to endorse President Museveni’s candidature by claiming he had been sent by the NRM party headquarters.

Mr Brian Twasiima, the chairperson of Kigezi Youth Alliance Development Association, was arrested on Wednesday evening as he returned from Kisoro District where he was blocked by security personnel from collecting signatures.

He was asked to present an introduction letter from the NRM headquarters which he could not produce.

Kabale District police commander Augustus Nakitari said the matter was being handled under the electoral offences.

The NRM deputy secretary general, Mr Richard Todwong, on Thursday said they were not aware of Mr Twasiima’s actions or intentions. “Let the arrested person tell police the person that asked him to do the registration. I am not aware of the dealings of the accused person,” Mr Todwong said.
