Verdict for cannibalism suspects expected today

Masaka- Thirteen people accused of killing and eating the flesh of a woman, and her nine-month-old baby, are expected to appear in court today to hear judgement.

Prosecution alleges the accused on March 23 in Kyakirugu village in Kyarurangira Sub-county, Rakai District, killed Kyamukama Arinaitwe and her nine-month baby before eating their flesh.
Masaka High Court presided over by Justice Margaret Oumo Oguli last month heard that Kyamukama and her baby were killed as she, together with her husband Deus Bandihihi, sought shelter at one of the accused’s home after night had fallen as they travelled back to their home in Kankamba village in Kisekka Sub-county, Lwengo District.

The home in which they allegedly took shelter belonged to Asafu Ahimbisibwe, one of the suspects.

Court also heard that Ahimbisibwe, together with others, killed Mr Bandihihi wife and the baby during the night, but he was able to escape with a big cut on him arms.
Mr Bandihihi, who was supposed to be witness number one has since allegedly lost his mind and is suspected to have gone mad.

Reports indicate he walks on the streets of Masaka like a mad man. One of the suspects Elias Musujja, is reported to have committed suicide in police cells.
