UGANDA’S RULING PARTY RESOLOVES TO SUPPORT PROPOSAL TO REMOVE AGE LIMIT FOR PRESIDENCY

KAMPALA, Members of Uganda's ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM), have resolved to embark on a nationwide campaign to promote a proposal to remove from the country's Constitution a provision setting the presidential age limit at 75 years.

Tuesday's meeting in Kampala, which was co-ordinated by presidential adviser David Mafabi, brought together NRM youth leaders, academicians and MPs, who resolved that the NRM party should remove the age limit to allow President Yoweri Museveni to continue leading the country beyond the end of his current term in 2021.

MPs Simeo Nsubuga of Kassanda South and Cololnel Fred Mwesigye of Nyabushozi County assured the meeting that the age limit would surely be removed so as to allow Museveni, now 72, to contest for the presidency again in 2021.
