UGANDAN PRESIDENT TO RECEIVE 2018 GLOBAL AWARD

KAMPALA-- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni will be honoured here Wednesday with the Global Peace Award 2018 for being at the foreforent of peace efforts in the world during the 6th Global Peace Leadership Conference at the Speke Resort in Kampala.

The Global Peace Leadership Conference is an annual event that promotes innovative approaches to peace building. It is organized by the Global Peace Foundation, an international non-profit organization based in Maryland in the United States.

This year's conference will be held under the theme. "Moral and Innovative Leadership: New Models for Sustainable Peace and Development".

Uganda's Public Service Minister, Wilson Muruli Mukasa, disclosed that six incumbent heads of State and former leaders have confirmed attendance of the conference.

Uganda was chosen to host this year's conference because of its regional efforts on peace and security, the resettlement of refugees and the successful track-record in the fight against HIV/AIDS, according to Muruli.

The conference is intended to position Uganda as a regional and international peace messenger upon which will be a foundation to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council, he stated.

The conference is expected to draw over 1000 participants. Uganda is hosting the conference after Kenya (2010), United States (2012), Malaysia (2013), Paraguay (2014), and Philippines (2017).

The Republic of Korea will next host the global peace meeting in 2019, with the aim of focusing on the unification of Korea and tackling economic imbalances in the world.
