UGANDAN PRESIDENT OPENS NEW KAMAPALA-ENTEBBE HIGHWAY

ENTEBBE, UGANDA-- President Yoweri Museveni, together with the Chairperson of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Wang Yang, Friday presided over the commissioning of the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway here.

The Entebbe expressway is Uganda's first highway and is arguably the most beautiful piece of Uganda's growing stock of infrastructure. It links the capital, Kampala, with Entebbe, a city on the shores of Lake Victoria, about 37 kilometres away and where the country's main airport is located.

It is also a major milestone in a win-win partnership which has been forged between Uganda and China.

The highway was funded through loans and a contribution from the Government. Uganda secured a 350 million US dollars loan from the Exim Bank of China, while the government contributed 126 million USD.
