UGANDA: PRES MUSEVENI TO GIVE STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS

KAMPALA, As the Constitution requires, President Yoweri Museveni is to give accountability to the country through the State of the Nation address.

He is also expected to give highlights of the priorities of his government in the next financial year.

Last year, the President vowed to bring to book corrupt ministers and public servants.

The corrupt are going to see what a Muyeekera (resistance fighter) looks like. I have quite a bit of information about leaders who ask for bribes from foreigners and locals who invest here. Corruption should and will be stamped out among political leaders and public servants. We are going to stamp out corruption as we stamped out indiscipline in the army, Museveni stated last year.

He also promised to reduce high interest rates charged by commercial banks and to reduce imports, which have turned Uganda into a "supermarket of foreign products.

We are donating $875m to China in imports. There is need for the people to buy local products. By importing so much, we are giving jobs to Indians, Japanese, Chinese, Americans and forgetting about our own. The Government must buy locally produced goods and services, the President elaborated.
