Uganda hosts “solidarity summit” amid fast-growing refugee crisis

Uganda is hosting a "solidarity summit" with the support of the United Nations amid a fast-growing refugee crisis in the country.

A mass exodus from South Sudan has roughly doubled the refugee population in the East African nation to over 1.2 million.

Some 30 heads of State and international donors will take part in the summit, which opens on Thursday and aims to raise US $2 billion to meet the humanitarian needs of refugees and support host communities.

Jocelyne Sambira is in Uganda and filed this report.
