Taekwondo Ambassadors Cup Back in Action (allAfrica.com)

The Taekwondo Ambassadors Cup which takes place annually is back in action this week from August 28 to 29 at Amahoro stadium.

Launched three years ago with a major aim of promoting martial arts as a sport, the competition sponsored by the South Korean embassy is expected to attract over 150 participants from regional countries like DR Congo, Burundi, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and hosts, Rwanda.

Speaking about the competition, Placid Mugabo, the secretary general of the Rwanda Taekwondo Federation, said: “The competition is essential for Team Rwanda especially for the three participates since we intend to send them for the All Africa Game due in Congo Brazzaville next month.”

Rwanda is being represented by Delphine Uwababyeyi (46kgs), Martin Nduwayezu (56kgs) and Regis Inyumba (58kgs).

The Rwandan taekwondo team won seven medals in the recently concluded International Taekwondo Festival Championship in Korea.

The best three competitors from the different categories will be rewarded with trophies and prizes.
