Student drowns in university swimming pool

Police in Luweero District are investigating circumstances under which a senior five student of Munta Royal College in Bombo drowned in a swimming pool at Ndejje University on Sunday.
Savanah region police Spokesperson, Mr Lameck Kigozi has identified the deceased as Muzamil Bukenya, a Senior five student whose body was retrieved from a swimming pool at Ndejje University on Sunday evening
“Some University students who were at the swimming pool saw the deceased swimming but later saw him under the water where they became suspicious after noticing that he had failed to swim and fighting for his life. The students alerted the university authorities who contacted the police”, Mr Kigozi told the Daily Monitor on Monday.
The police according to Mr Kigozi took the body to Mulago Hospital for a postmortem.
However Ndejje University public relations officer, Mr Nathan Kasozi said a university rescue team tried to rescue the boy who looked exhausted as he tried to swim in the pool.
“Our University team ran to the rescue of the boy who looked tired and could not swim. He collapsed as they tried to rescue him from drowning in the swimming pool”, Mr Kasozi told the Daily Monitor when contacted on phone for a comment.
