The Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda has today, 22nd February 2016 called on the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E Hassan Rouhani, at his Chambers in Tehran.
In the meeting, the Iranian President hailed the good relationship between Iran and Uganda, and said it was just the beginning of broader positive developments in the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The two leaders discussed development issues in the areas of trade and investment, agro processing and infrastructure development especially in the Railway and Roads sector.
The Speaker highlighted the availability of opportunities for agro processing and manufacturing such as setting up a tractor assembly plant and the available Free Trade Zones, as agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding and the Joint Communique between the Heads of State of Iran and Uganda, respectively.
President Rouhani promised to increase scholarship opportunities for Ugandans in the fields of IT, engineering and Medicine. He further pledged to activate the banking sector to foster trade between the two countries; and to equip the Police Hospital in Naguru, which was constructed under the Iranian Partnership.
Prior to the meeting, the Speaker also met with the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Ali Larijani, who reiterated the need to further upgrade the bilateral and trade relationship with Uganda.
Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga is in Tehran, Iran to attend the Sixth International Conference in Support of Palestinian Intifada.
The annual summit is aimed at drawing support from different countries and parliaments for the oppressed people of Palestine and defending their righteous struggle against imperialism and Zionism.
