Sousse-based Avionav has exported hundreds of light single-engine aircraft since 2007 (CEO)

The Sousse-based "Avionav" company, a manufacturer of 2 to 4-seater light aircraft recently made its first two-seater light aircraft and exported a first model to a customer in an African country in March 2023, said Avionav CEO Foued El-Kamel.

Speaking to TAP, on the sidelines of a ceremony held by "Avionav" company, on the renewal of its safety certificate and a flight authorisation and the marketing of its products in Portugal, El-Kamel underlined that the company continues to cooperate with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) so as to obtain the certificate of conformity with European standards and beyond that to market its aircraft in Poland and in the rest of the European countries.

"The company has, since 2007, exported hundreds of light single-engine aircraft, manufactured in Tunisia, which have won the appreciation of customers in different countries around the world." All components of the plane, except the engine, are made in the company's workshops in Borjine, Sousse, he added.

CEO of the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA-Tunisia) Jalel Tabib told TAP the aircraft's components manufacturing sector covers more than 80 specialised Tunisian companies, offering nearly 17,000 jobs and representing nearly 4% of the country's GDP.

The volume of foreign investment increased 18% in 2022 compared to 2021.

In the first quarter of 2023, this volume increased nearly 15% compared to the same period of 2022.
