Setbacks of terrorists in Kongoussi: Witnesses tell

In their plan to attack the Kongoussi military base, some terrorists advanced on foot, others pushed their motorcycles to avoid being spotted. But it was a waste of time, the Combatant Forces kept watch… The defeat was stinging for the forces of evil.

Very early on Sunday, April 16, 2023, terrorists once again tried to attack the Kongoussi military base.

“The shooting started around 4:40 a.m. with light weapons and continued with heavy weapons until 5:40 a.m.,” a witness told AIB.

According to another well-introduced source, the assailants divided into three groups to attack the military camp. A first group came from Nabeguian, another from the east side of the camp and the last group came to the Parish of Bâam.

According to the information received by the AIB, some terrorists came on foot and others pushed their vehicles so as not to be spotted.

“But with the vigilance of the elements of the outposts and the VDPs who were watching the grain, they were surprised by the violence of the response. They were struck down by the fighters and some were forced to throw down their weapons to flee,” our interlocutor explained.

Sunday, at midday and even before the end of the sweeps, 14 bodies were already exposed in front of the military camp and passers-by could observe them freely.

The Ground Forces were supported by air vectors in combat. Airstrikes also hit several of their own.

"There are other bodies scattered in the bush," another source said, claiming that at least 40 devices and weapons were recovered.

Some elements were even caught up in the town of Kongoussi as they tried to leave the town by transport companies or to hide among the population, after having abandoned weapons and mounts.

According to a statement from the army, twenty terrorists were neutralized, thirty motorcycles recovered, other materials destroyed and recovered.

Unfortunately, there are two deaths in the ranks of the FDS and two others injured.

As a reminder, armed groups have always put pressure on the Kongoussi military detachment since its establishment.

In early March 2023, another attempt was foiled by the military and the VDPs
