Runner Inzikuru Joins N. Uganda Youth MP Race (

The former World Commonwealth Games 3000 metres steeplechase champion, Dorcus Inzikuru has joined the race for Northern Uganda Youth Member of Parliament.

Inzikuru says her priority will be developing sports from the grass-root level to produce consistent talent for Uganda. She is among several youths who have picked and returned nomination forms for the National Resistance Movement primaries slated for September.

Inzikuru says that for long, sports has been lagging behind, yet Uganda has abundant talent that can propel the country to greater heights.

Inzikuru says through her engagement, she realized that the youths need structures right from the grass-root so that talent can be nurtured early. Pitching her campaigns on youth development through sports, the former world champion says she is determined to ensure that her experience in the sports doesn’t go to waste.

“Sports has been down in the country especially young Inzukuru’s. I don’t see young Inzikuru’s excelling and yet we have young talented youths who are there at the grassroots . The first thing I want to is; to establish different camps in all the districts not just in Northern Uganda but allover districts of the nation…”, she said.

Inzikuru says Uganda has the capacity to produce the best sportsmen and women in the country, but lacks the structures and facilities to achieve that. To the Arua gazelle, the only facility in Kapchorwa district is not enough to offer training to all the budding talent in the country.

Inzikuru won the inaugural world title in women’s 3000m steeplechase, as well as the first Commonwealth title in the event. She is currently in second year, pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration at Ndejje University.

She is also an athletics coach with the Uganda Police Athletics team, as well as the national team tasked with responsibility developing young talent.
