Residents demand compensation

Mpigi. Over 1000 residents on Bunjako Island, Buwama Sub-county in Mpigi District, who were forcefully evicted from a forest reserve belonging to Buganda Kingdom’s Prince David Mawanda Namugala, are demanding compensation.
The residents claim their houses and crops were destroyed during the eviction exercise. The affected villages are Kasawo, Namala, Kirega, Bugoma and Kyagalanyi. Recently, police on Prince Mawanda’s request, evicted the residents and created a police post in the area to avert further settlement.
Mr Benon Nsamba, the district councillor for Buwama Sub-county, said they will petition court to compel Prince Mawanda to compensate the tenants.
