The President of the Episcopal Commission for Eucharistic Pilgrimages and Congresses (CEPCE), Monsignor Paul Y. Ouédraogo, announced on Tuesday the resumption of external Catholic pilgrimages in Burkina Faso, with a first planned period of July 10 to August 16, 2023.

The Episcopal Commission for Eucharistic Pilgrimages and Congresses (CEPCE) announced on Tuesday the resumption of external Catholic pilgrimages to Burkina Faso 2023, during a press conference.

The announcement was made by the President of the CEPCE, Monsignor Paul Y. Ouédraogo who unveiled the 2023 pilgrimage program scheduled from July 10 to August 16, 2023.

According to him, the Catholic pilgrimage is a spiritual journey motivated by faith.

"It takes place through the visit of a sanctuary linked to the celebration of a mystery of the Catholic faith or by stopping at a place linked to passages of Sacred Scripture, Holy Land or apparitions of the Virgin Mary. Marie or to places where Saints have passed, "said Bishop Ouédraogo.

He reminded all the faithful that the CEPCE itself organizes Catholic pilgrimages and can authorize Catholic pilgrimages to private promoters who accept the requirements of the Commission.

The man of faith also noted that Catholic pilgrimages fall under the competence of the CEPCE which promotes, organizes, coordinates and controls the said pilgrimages.

“It is she who is authorized to give the label of “Catholic Pilgrimage” to organized trips, even in a process of faith”, he specified.

Bishop Ouédraogo urged pilgrims who want to register to make sure that the pilgrimage offered to them appears on the list of pilgrimages organized by the CEPCE or on the list of pilgrimages authorized by the Episcopal Commission
