Odoch downplays Barca superiority

Kampala. Former Express FC and Cranes midfielder James Odoch has called upon his fellow Uganda All-Stars to avoid being star-struck by the Barcelona Legends that fly into the country on Tuesday.

Uganda hosts the former Barcelona players for an exhibition match, to raise funds for a soccer academy, on December 12.

“They might have the tag ‘Barcelona’ but we should treat them like any other opponent,” Odoch urges.

The former Express and SC Villa midfielder was famed for his ability to switch between offensive and defensive stances in matches and take shots of nearly equal precision with either feet, at the time the aforementioned clubs dominated local football in the 90s.

Odoch says the good old days are gone but he remains in proper shape ‘to play football’ thanks to his job as Jinja Municipal Council coach. He guided them to the Uganda Premier League after taking over from Charles Namakola ahead of the Big League playoffs in May.

“We know the Barca Legends are in better shape because they play many charity games after retirement but we should be able to cope,” Odoch said.
