Former Uganda Cranes stars David Obua, Hakim Magumba and Philip Obwiny have added their weight to the Rotary Charity Shield aimed at improving the lives of the impoverished.
The one-day tourney is slated for Saturday September 26 at KCCA stadium and is sponsored by Castle Lite and Bella Wine. The trio’s involvement will surely raise the profile of the five-aside tournament that will see Rotarians and Rotaractors showcase their football skills to raise money for Rotary’s community service projects to improve health, education, access to water and economic development.
More than 20 teams are expected to take part.
“Each team will comprise of ten players, of which seven must be Rotarians or Rotaractors. However, only one can be a professional or former professional footballer,” said Anne Begumisa, one of the tournament organisers.
Obua remains tightlipped on which Rotary Club he will be playing for but expressed joy to be involved in the noble cause of giving back to the community through showcasing skills.
“Football is what I am good at and I am happy to be able to use my skills to raise money to help the disadvantaged in the community.”
“Rotary is a reputable organisation and I am honoured that I was considered to feature in this tournament,” he said.
