New centre to deliver justice in Karamoja

Moroto: The Justice, Law and Order Sector has unveiled a multi-billion centre that will be used to deliver justice to the people of Karamoja sub-region.

The centre in Moroto District was funded by the Netherlands government at a cost of Shs1.9 billion

Mr Steven Kavuma, the Act Chief Justice, who was accompanied by the minister of Internal Affairs, Gen Aronda Nyakairima, and the Netherlands Amb. Alphans Hennekens, commissioned the centre on Friday.

During the ceremony Mr Kavuma warned against extorting money from suspects, saying: “This is an important milestone in the establishment of justice in the region. It’s a good extension of the rule of law and order.”

“Setting up such establishments in remote areas will help to bridge the gap in delivering justice for all,” he added.

Amb Hennekens appealed to the sector to use the centre as a driver of justice to the people of Karamoja.

He said his government would continue to support Uganda especially in the area of promoting justice, law and order.

The minister for Internal Affairs, Gen Nyakairima warned against increased absenteeism by officers entrusted to run such facilities. He said the venture squarely fits in the promotion of law, peace and order currently prevailing in the country.
