NCS salutes Silverbacks for 2017 Afrobasket qualification

National Council of Sports has saluted Uganda national men's basketball team for qualifying for the 2017 Afrobasket due August in Congo-Brazzaville.

The team overcame Rwanda 77-64 on Friday night in the semifinal of the Zone V qualifiers in Cairo, Egypt as they return for Afrobasket for a second time in a raw.

"Wow! This is fantastic. They (men's team) have not ashamed us. Indeed we saw the potential in them and could not let them miss the opportunity to showcase it," Muramagi said on receiving the news of the team's qualification.

NCS gave the men and women basketball teams 32 tickets air-tickets worth Ush80m to travel for the qualifers at a time the basketball federation FUBA had almost given up on sending them for the FIBA Africa Zone V Afrobasket Qualifiers in Cairo, Egypt.
