Municipal Museum of Bobo-Dioulasso: Children discover the cultural richness of Burkina Faso

The municipal museum of Bobo-Dioulasso opened its doors to visitors during this National Culture Week (SNC), providing an opportunity for citizens to discover the history and culture of their city and their country.

The National Culture Week (SNC) continues in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso with an organized visit to the municipal museum of the city.

This visit brought together, on Sunday April 30, 2023, 165 children who came to discover the cultural richness of Burkina Faso.

Placed under the theme: “Cultural diversity, ferment of national unity”, this SNC aims to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of the country.

The children were able to discover a varied collection of works of art and historical artefacts, ranging from traditional musical instruments to clothing and ancient tools.

Visitors were also able to discover temporary exhibitions on various subjects, ranging from the history of the region to contemporary art.

According to the vice-president of the children's commission, Rosine Diabaté, it is above all a question of raising children's awareness of the importance of preserving the cultural diversity of Burkina Faso.

"We want to give them the desire to discover their country, to be interested in their heritage and to preserve it for future generations," she explained.

According to him, his children were sponsored by UNICEF which accompanies the SNC in order to allow a thousand children to participate in the activities.

The children were particularly interested in the contemporary art exhibitions.

“I'm very happy to have come here, I learned a lot about our country and our culture. I would like to get on the little plane,” said a 12-year-old student.

Many citizens visited the museum during this day, thus testifying to the growing interest in the preservation of local culture and history.

As for the guide of the museum, Idriss Soré, he expressed his satisfaction to see children taking an interest in the activities of the municipal museum.
