The race for Miss Tourism Uganda 2015 is reaching a climax with the unveiling of the selected regional finalists last week.
It is now official that 33 beauties from 11 regions of Uganda will battle it out for the top crown set for Kampala Serena Hotel on Friday August 28th.
Maria Mutagamba, the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities called for greater collaboration from stakeholders in supporting and promoting tourism.
“When you support these ladies, you support a whole industry which benefits you who are in the tourism business,” Mutagamba said.
He said: “They are our ambassadors as a nation and wherever they go they carry the banner of Uganda.”
She said the benefits of tourism are unlike any other industry because they trickle down to many players. Dr. Mutagamba gave an example of a tourist benefiting the taxi driver, the hotel, the guide, the woman selling crafts and the airline all in one go.
The 33 tourism contestants are from the Ugandan regions of WestNile, Karamoja, Ankole, Busoga, Buganda, Bunyoro, Tooro, Teso, Bugisu, Kigezi and Northern.
After the unveiling ceremony, the contestants move to a boot camp where they will be trained in preparation for the Miss Tourism Uganda.
For three weeks, they will train in tourism and tour the country before making the final day at Kampala Serena Hotel on Friday August 28.
In his remarks, Stephen Asiimwe, the chief executive officer of the Uganda Tourism Board, thanked the regional coordinators and the contestants for making it this far.
“These beauty queens are an epitome of the beauty and diversity of Uganda as a country. You are our ambassadors,” Asiimwe said, adding that they are now the nation’s tourism ambassadors to the world. The winner of Miss Tourism Uganda 2015 will represent Uganda at the 2015 Miss Tourism International Contest at Long Bay, Vietnam, on 31 November 2015.
This third edition of Miss Tourism Uganda comes with a bigger sponsorship package. Other winners will represent Uganda at Miss Tourism World, Miss Heritage World and Miss Heritage International. Sponsors have offered beauty products and air tickets to the different winners.
