Ministry officials resign over police probe

By: Isaac Imaka

KAMPALA: Health Permanent Secretary Asuman Lukwago is investigating claims that police officers are soliciting bribes from ministry officials accused of abuse of public funds, a process which was immediately questioned by the Force yesterday.

The PS told journalists after a failed meeting with the House Public Accounts Committee yesterday that even as his officials brought this matter to his attention other technical staff had been forced to mortgage title deeds in order to defend themselves.

Dr Lukwago further alleged that his officials have staged a go-slow strike and at least six top commissioners he did not name, tendered in their resignation in protest at what the PS called, “demoralisation”. The Daily Monitor was not able to verify the claim of alleged mass resignations by press time.
