Minister clarifies on Lira RDC appointee

By: Robert Owot

Pader: The confusion over who was appointed Lira Resident District Commissioner (RDC) has ended after the Minister for the Presidency, Mr Frank Tumwebaze, clarified on the issue.

At the weekend, Mr George Odong Otto, the coordinator for Pader District NGO Forum, told journalists at his home in Pader Town Council that while he had received many calls over the appointment, he would not take the offer until a clarification is made.

“My name is George Odong Otto but the name of the person on the new RDC list for Lira District is Mr George Odong. So I cannot take up the position with incomplete names,” Mr Otto said.

He added that on February 6, he received a call from the Kitgum RDC, Lt Santo Okot Lapolo, informing him about his ‘appointment’ as the new Lira RDC.

However, Mr Tumwebaze on Tuesday said: “The one who was appointed is George Odong. We don’t know Otto.”

Mr Otto contested for Agago LC5 seat on the FDC ticket and lost to NRM’s Peter Odok W’Oceng.
