Man kills wife, child, hangs himself

Residents of Corom Parish, Koch Goma Sub-county in Nwoya district, on Monday woke up to shock after a man identified as Simon Opiyo, 22, allegedly clobbered his wife and child to death before hanging himself.
The deceased is identified as Prossy Adoch Akello , 19 ,and her one-year-old baby boy Enose Gom Pe Rom.
Opiyo is believed to have clobbered his wife and child using a hammer under unclear circumstances.
Aswa Regional Police Spokesperson, Mr Jimmy Patrick Okema, confirmed the incident, adding that the deceased were taken to Gulu referral Hospital for postmortem.

Mr Okema said the police visited the crime scene although they yet to establish what could have led to the gruesome murder.
“We are still investigating the circumstances that led Mr Opiyo to kill his family. According to preliminary findings, the couple had been having domestic problems for a long time,” he said.
Mr Okema, however urged the locals most especially women to report matters of domestic violence to the police before it gets out of hand. Since the year began, a total of eleven people have been murdered in Nwoya district, according to police records.
