Man attempts sell own child at Shs3m

Budaka: Police in Budaka District are holding a 25-year-old man for allegedly attempting to sell his own 13-year-old-daughter at Shs3 million.

Mr Micheal Odongo, the Malaba Region police spokesperson, said the suspect, a resident of Kameruka Sub-county, was found negotiating with a herbalist in Iki-Iki Sub-county to source for persons who could buy daughter. “We were tipped over the alleged deal and we quickly laid a trap by sending detectives pretending to be buyers. After a lengthy negotiation with the father, we [police] zeroed on paying him Shs2.5million,which he accepted.

This is when we arrested him,” Mr Odongo said. Police said during the investigations, the accused confessed to having attempted to sell of his daughter because of poverty.

The police charged him with human trafficking and if taken to court and convicted, he will serve more than 10 years in prison.
