Fufa President Moses Magogo and UOC head William Blick are some of the leading figures in the sports fraternity that will attend today’s annual Memorial Service to remember all fallen Uganda Sports Press Association (Uspa) journalists.
The church service was started in 2002 to remember talented scribes Francis Batte Jr, Leo Kabunga, Simon Peter Ekarot and Kenneth Matovu Jr, all of whom perished in a nasty road accident in Lugazi.
The prayers have since been broadened to accommodate all journalists who have passed on in the 44-year journey of Uspa.
“Sports journalism plays a key role in the growth of the industry and as UOC, we need to pray for the souls of the departed journalists whose contribution would have continued to make change,” Blick said yesterday. “They may be gone but they are not forgotten.” Meanwhile, Standard Chartered Bank yesterday contributed Shs4m towards Saturday’s Road Safety campaign which will be held in Entebbe.
Among the activities will be a brass band march, zebra crossing painting and matches involving Entebbe Utoda, City Tyres, Uspa and Standard Chartered Bank.
Uspa will meanwhile crown runner Moses Kipsiro as the Sports Personality of August tonight.
