Ever since his bar brawl with Dembe FM presenter Isaac Katende aka Kasuku at his press conference at Laftaz Lounge recently, many people were wondering whether Eddy Kenzo’s launch would be a hit or a miss.
Well, last Friday Eddy Kenzo let his music do the talking, as he launched Nice And Lovely Sitya Loss concert at Kati Kati gardens. Nice And Lovely, and Sitya Loss are his latest singles that have rocked airwaves this year. Kenzo had promised that he would have no curtain raisers but that wasn’t the case.
Esco and Bukedde TV’s Katongole Omutogole were masters of ceremonies cracking up fans. And thank God for the KCCA curfew it has artistes and fans now appearing at concerts early. By 7pm, fans were trickling in at Kati Kati gardens. The music was blazing courtesy of Swangz Avenue and Vibes Events. The stage was set up in the middle of the gardens with relay screens on each side.
Esco kept the fans busy with a request session asking them which song or artiste they wanted to have on stage. Of course they didn’t have all the artistes that the fans asked for but at least the DJ had the music. And the MCs kept the crowd engaged.
Ziggy Dee was the first on stage at around 8pm doing his wonder hit Mic Ya Ziggy Dee and Lord Fred Sebatta followed. But it was Irene Ntale who had the crowd go in wow mode. She walked on with a guitar doing Joanita Kawalya’s Jim Wange then Kawalya joined her. Ntale paved way for her. Comedian Salvado and city MC Omulangira Ndausi also geared up fans.
It was now the time for the man of the night. Screens played the Laftaz Lounge clip to the cheer of the fans. Many expected Kenzo to comment about the incident but he didn’t. He was clad in black pants and shoes with a coloured shirt and cap. He was shocked by the full house the entire VIP section was full and so was the ordinary section. It was 9:20pm and the fans were still trickling in.
He started off with Super Power, Commanding Wife, Bwaba Muyaaye, and Tonkunya. He did his gospel hit, Neyanzizza, Kyomisinga, Lonely, Akaserengeto, Ozifunye otya, Sonyiwa Munno, and Stress-Free.
The crowd wanted more he went back to his the songs that proved he is a main stay in the industry: Ogenda Kunzinsa and Kamunguluze. At 11pm came the much-awaited Nice And Lovely, and Bolingo with Tip Swizy. The crowd was now ecstatic as they did Nze Asinga.
The Ghetto kids who made Sitya Loss, the monster hit locally and internationally, jumped on stage. Unlike the time when they were at Freedom City where they concentrated on collecting money from the fans, this time it was just their dance skills and boys could shake and groove.
Kenzo thanked his fans and called up Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and city businessman Godfrey Kirumira, who were in attendance as he did Sitya Loss. It was a befitting climax. To a well-choreographed concert and another thumbs-up to the man who wants to take “Ugandan music to another level”.
