Police in Jinja has broken up a demonstration by supporters of Prince Edward Columbus Wambuzi, and arrested four of them.
Jinja District Police Commander, Mr Apollo Kateeba said, that the four are to be charged with inciting violence and blocking traffic.
“I have arrested four of these demonstrators who had blocked the road going to Kamuli and Iam taking them to court today to answer for inciting violence and blocking traffic” Mr Kateeba said.
The group of about 30 youths had blocked the road at Namulesa on the Jinja Kamuli highway with stones and started burning tyres early Monday morning to protest the enthronement of Prince William Nadiope Gabula IV, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday September 13.
“We are ready to do anything that will help prevent the enthronement to take place and we shall not give up despite the threats of arrests,” said one of the demonstrators.
However, no sooner had he made the vow than a contingent of riot police officers arrived on the scene sending the small group that was carrying placards critical of Prince Nadiope into disarray before the police could shoot any live ammunition or lob teargas canisters at them.
Meanwhile, preparations for the enthronement of Prince William Nadiope Gabula IV are in high gear.
