First Lady Opens Maternity Ward

First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni has urged husbands to attend antenatal visits and support their wives during pregnancy.

Commissioning the maternity ward at Kibiito health centre IV in Kabarole district last week, Ms Museveni said joint spousal visits would help reduce maternal deaths.

“Husbands should ensure that their wives feed well and visit antenatal clinics. They should be prepared when the time comes to go to hospital so that we bring down these maternal health problems… ” she said.

The minister of Health, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, said health workers urged health workers to ensure proper care of pregnant women as soon as they arrive at a health facility.

Kibiito’s new maternity and newborn complex, which were refurbished by Kabarole district local government in partnership with Baylor Uganda and Unicef, will be able to accommodate 20 pregnant women, among other facilities.
