A finance manager of a hotel in Entebbe has been fired for allegedly causing loss of more than Shs363 million to the company.Laico Lake Victoria Hotel, a popular tourist hotel in Entebbe, decided to relieve Hajat Sarah Nabosa of her duties after an investigation discovered the missing money.
In a February 20, 2014 letter to Hajat Nabosa, the management of the hotel said it had discovered that she had misappropriated the money and vital finance documents of the hotel.
“In the circumstances, management decided that your contract shall not be renewed,” part of the letter seen by the Daily Monitor reads.Findings from investigations indicate that Shs198 million wasn’t accounted for and the financial controller allegedly opened ghost accounts in Stanbic Bank, causing another loss of $40,000 (about Shs100 million).
According to the report, Ms Nabosa created ghost emergency purchases of $20,000 (Shs50m) that were received at the hotel although they were paid for. When contacted, Ms Nabosa denied the accusations but declined to give more details. “Of course, the findings are not true but I have no comment about it,” she said on phone.
Our calls to the hotel manager, Mr Mare Peters, went answered. However, Ms Doreen Katushabe, the hotel human resource manager, acknowledged the matter but declined to divulge any details.
