Dozens held as police recover 34 stolen motorcycles

Lira- Police have arrested 20 people on suspicion they may have stolen 34 motorcycles which were recovered in Lira Town in an operation conducted last week.

The North Kyoga regional police spokesperson, Mr Manshur Suwed, said the motorcycles could have been stolen from Kampala, Jinja, Arua, Gulu and Kumi districts.

Mr Suwed said the group took aantage of the population by using their agents in different districts to sell the motorcycles without detailed information“What do you expect from these local farmers in easing their movements? They just purchase them (motorcycles) since on many occasions the prices are slightly lower,” Mr Suwed said.

He warned the public against buying boda bodas on the black market, adding that they should first consult the police.

Consultation“If not police, you can go to Uganda Revenue Authrority and verify the log book before you buy a second hand motorcycle,” Mr Suwed said.The spokesperson aised those who lost their motorcycles to report to Lira Central Police Station and identify them. By press time, there were 30 motorcycles unclaimed for. They will be auctioned if they are not claimed within a month.
