Cranes to start Afcon preps with NIC cover

KAMPALA.

Uganda Cranes are yet to know their opponents for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers. One thing that is certain, though, is that the players, coaching staff and team doctor, will be insured against injuries sustained during the official preparations and the qualifying games.

This is after National Insurance Corporation (NIC) renewed their sponsorship deal worth Shs660m with the local football governing body, Fufa, yesterday. The previous package was due to expire later this year after the initial agreement done October in 2011. The package will, according to NIC managing director, Bayo Folayan, cover against death and injuries resulting into permanent disability while on official engagements.

“Our vision in supporting the Cranes is to create an enabling environment for our footballers so that they too can compete on a global platform and rank among the best in the world,” Folayan stressed.

The insurance package will also cover incidents during training as well as travels to and from matches plus burial arrangements in case of death.Uganda will start their campaign for the Afcon tournament to be hosted in Morocco at the preliminary stage with the draws expected to take place on April 27.The games, meanwhile, are expected to be played starting on the weekend of May 16.
