Convocation Recognises 70th Grad’s Best Overall Student

The Chancellor of Makerere University, Prof. Ezra Suruma appealed to Makerere University Business School (MUBS) graduands to take up the enormous responsibility of redesigning the national and regional economic framework so as to deliver prosperity for all and enhance capacity for survival. This was during the third session of the 70th Graduation Ceremony held on 16th January 2020 in the Makerere University Freedom Square.

As graduates in economics, finance, statistics and information science, you are the new generation of economists, planners, information and data managers to design a new framework that can create full employment of our human and natural resources. We need far reaching innovations in finance, planning and information technology, said Prof. Suruma.

The Chancellor congratulated MUBS upon producing the best overall graduand for the fifth consecutive time and its distinguished achievements in teaching, training, research and enormous contribution to the graduands and Uganda at large.

MUBS' Ms. Namukose Rita emerged the best overall and best student in Humanities. She graduated with the Bachelor of International Business, scoring a CGPA of 4.92 out of 5. Ms. Namukose was recognised for her academic achievement by Makerere University Convocation.

Dr. Fredrick Tanga Odoi, the Chairperson of Convocation, presented to her a plaque and UGX 1 Million in recognition of her excellent performance. Thousands of Graduands from MUBS including 7 PhDs were conferred upon degrees of Makerere University.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe noted that MUBS is recognised as one of the best Schools of Business in Africa and congratulated MUBS Council, Management and Staff upon the great improvements in infrastructure and research.

MUBS is an important component of Makerere University and it is our desire that the School thrives in order to raise the Makerere flag even higher as we all contribute to the socialeconomic development of our country and region together we will achieve even more, said Prof. Nawangwe.

To the graduands, he said, Makerere cherishes you, fare thee well and do not forget that you have gone through the gates of Makerere University.

Prof. Juma Waswa Balunywa, the Principal of Makerere University Business School, extended gratitude to the parents, guardians, relatives and sponsors for their sacrifices and congratulated all the graduands upon the successful completion of their academic programmes.

He called upon the graduands to make MUBS and Makerere University proud through utilizing the skills and knowledge obtained for the benefit of their communities, country and the nation at large.
