Burkina: Scientists gathered to propose solutions to the fight against the security crisis

Researchers from the sociology department met on Tuesday for a study day to reflect on the security crisis in Burkina Faso in order to propose operational solutions.

"At the end of this day, we hope to have endogenous solutions that can be operational, which will allow us to make our contribution to the fight (against terrorism)", declared the research professor in the sociology department at the Joseph Ki Zerbo University, Pr Valérie Rouamba.

According to her, the role of the sociologist is to go down to the populations who live the crises and to exchange with them on the realities with which they are confronted.

Valérie Rouamba, also responsible for the gender and development laboratory, spoke on Tuesday during the study day organized in collaboration with the "African pilot postgraduate academy" (PAPA) program under the theme "Burkina Faso facing to the security crisis: socio-political dynamics, social changes and resistance”.

The head of the gender and development laboratory indicated that eminent researchers from around the world will focus on the questions of the foundations of the crisis, how the population experiences this crisis and how to create resilience.

Mrs. Rouamba informed that the solutions will be brought to the authorities but not "only to the authorities because there are levels of action in this fight, namely the institutional actions, the actions taken by the highest summit and the actions carried by the people”.

For his part, Prof. Alkassoum Maïga specified that “the major role of an intellectual is his ability to use his thinking to serve those who need it”.

He affirmed that strategies and constructive reflections can only come from laboratories, universities and research centers.

“We cannot sit back and watch our nation in peril and do nothing because not only do we have the capabilities but we can increase those capabilities tenfold,” he added.

The major impact for us is to make available to the general public and especially to the consumption of major decision-makers, the reflections that have been carried out within the framework of the laboratory, he concluded.
