"A teacher who does not have authority cannot produce results", professor

Ouagadougou, April 12, 2023 (AIB)- A teacher who has no authority, cannot produce results, indicated last Friday at the microphone of the AIB, the teacher researcher in sociology of education at Joseph Ki Zerbo University, Dr Zakaria Soré, who has just released his new book entitled "The little treatise".

“In terms of counseling it's how to build authority in the classroom. Everything revolves around this aspect, because a teacher who does not have authority is a teacher who cannot produce results, ”noted the teacher researcher in sociology of education at Joseph Ki University. Zerbo, Dr Zakaria Sore.

For him, the question of authority must be adapted to the current context which prohibits the use of the whip which, in the past, was used to impress its power on the student.

“We had teachers dragged before the courts. There, the approach was to show the teacher how to build his authority without resorting to violence, ”he continued.

Dr Soré was speaking last Friday during an interview granted to a journalist from the AIB, on the release of his new work entitled “Le petit Traité” which advocates recommendations for quality teaching.

To this end, he has shown that the content of his book can help transform the teaching practices of teachers.

According to him, the teacher must have, at the social and pedagogical level, good relations with his environment and the parents of pupils and always be a model for society.

The teacher-researcher also recalled that in the past, actors in the educational world behaved as being “people living in a certain misery”.

He also advised primary school teachers to go beyond this conception of the profession, to rise and carry their profession with dignity.

The work "Small Treaty", according to the author, is a work of a hundred pages but which contains a certain number of recommendations and orientations in terms of teaching practice.

“The idea for this book comes from fact, from observing what is happening in the classroom, from the relationships that the teaching world has with the parents of students, the umbrella structures but also from the relationships with hierarchical superiors” , he specified.
