Arts Market at the SNC: An opportunity to discover artistic treasures

On the occasion of the 20th edition of the National Culture Week (SNC), the Minister of Economy, Finance and Prospective, Aboubacar Nacanabo, proceeded to the opening of the Arts Market on Monday May 1, 2023 at the Maison de la Culture Mgr Anselme Titianma Sanon.

A special opportunity to celebrate the richness and diversity of art in the country, as well as to encourage artists to continue their creative work.

Art is in the spotlight at this 20th edition of National Culture Week (SNC). To this end, the Arts Market opened its doors to the public on Monday, May 1, 2023 at the Maison de la Culture Mgr Anselme Titianma Sanon.

The Minister in charge of the Economy, Aboubacar Nacanabo

The starting signal for the said market was given by the Minister of Economy, Finance and Prospective, Aboubacar Nacanabo, in the company of his counterparts in charge of Humanitarian Action, Nandy Somé and Digital Economy, Aminata Zerbo.

This market brings together artists and art lovers from all over the country. The Minister stressed the importance of culture and art in the economic and social development of the country.

He also highlighted the government's commitment to supporting artists and promoting their work. For him, the art market is an opportunity given to artists to express their talent.

“This talent can be transformed into positive energy for the economic and social development of Burkina Faso,” he suggested.

Listening to him, the artists are to be congratulated and encouraged because they occupy an important place in the development of Burkina Faso.

"We think that the contribution of artists is really very important and we see how they demonstrate innovation, creativity and how they let their minds travel to bring us works that are really very beautiful," added the Minister.

After the Minister's speech, the ceremony was marked by the cutting of the symbolic ribbon to inaugurate the Arts Market and the exhibition of works in competition.

28 works in competition in three categories

Dozens of artists submitted their works to be reviewed by a jury, which will determine the winners in the three different categories.

We have 7 works in the Batik category, 9 in sculpture and 12 works in painting. The works in competition are exhibited in a gallery specially fitted out for the occasion.

The guided tour of the works in competition was led by a member of the jury, who explained the different criteria used to evaluate the works.

Visitors had the opportunity to discover exceptional works of art, ranging from paintings and sculptures, to batik.

28 works are in competition in three categories (Batik, sculpture and painting)

The painter and sculptor Diangané Seydou Rogé Malogam is present there with a sculpture composed of several subjects such as social cohesion, the conservation of tradition and culture, the sacred emblem of Burkina Faso and the torch of freedom.

It is not his first participation. He has already won the 3rd prize and a special prize twice. This year, he hopes to win the first prize with his sculpture.

Visitors were impressed by the quality and diversity of the works on display, which reflect the wealth of art in the country.

The event aroused the enthusiasm of artists and visitors, who welcomed this initiative to promote art in the country.

The SNC is a unique opportunity for artists to connect with a wider audience and share their creative vision with the world.
