Bunyoro Affairs minister Ernest Kiiza has said the decision by President Museveni to sign the Anti-homosexuality bill into law has given him massive support from the grass roots. “We need to stand up and support the President since he has promoted and safeguarded Uganda’s interests,” Mr Kiiza stated.
The minister was speaking at the welcome party for the Masindi RDC, Ms Martha Asiimwe, as well as bidding farewell to the outgoing RDC, Maj David Matovu, in Masindi Town on Saturday. He said Uganda needs a tested and experienced leader who cannot be bullied by Western countries and donor agencies.
“The President has demonstrated that our values cannot be compromised by money from the donors,” Mr Kiiza who is the chairperson of the Bunyoro parliamentary caucus said. He said Uganda is a God-fearing nation which cannot accept its morals to be watered down in exchange for aid.
Meanwhile, Bunyoro Kingdom has welcomed the anti-gays legislation. The Kingdom’s Deputy Prime minister, Mr Blasio Mugasa, said the legislation will protect the institution of marriage and curb immorality.
“It is unheard of in our culture for a man or woman to get married to a person of the same sex. The legislation protects and enhances our culture and marriage values,” Mr Mugasa said on Friday.
