ALNAJARI: WE CARE ABOUT LEBANON AND HELP IT TO DISTANCE ITSELF FROM CONFLICTS IN THE REGION

"There is great Egyptian interest in Lebanon and PM Saad Hariri, and there have been contacts since yesterday to arrange his visit to Egypt soon," said Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon Nazih al-Najari.

"Egypt is working to support Lebanon, and it prefers to hold quiet contacts in this respect and to coordinate with interested parties concerned about the situation in Lebanon," said al-Najari in an interview to "Voice of Lebanon" Radio Channel on Sunday.

"This was evident in the Egyptian Foreign Minister's visit to a number of Arab countries, especially Saudi Arabia," he added.

The Egyptian diplomat indicated that his country also seeks to contribute to achieving balanced settlements that are in line with the interests of all sides in the region.

As for the Arab Foreign Ministers meeting in Cairo and Egypt's position on the Saudi memorandum, al-Najari said: "There is always an effort to achieve the interests of all parties. There are legitimate Arab concerns and reasons for concern to be dealt with, and there is Lebanon as well, to which we accord special care and seek for it to be distant from the conflicts in the region."

"Stability in Lebanon should not be affected," al-Najari underscored.

"I briefed the Lebanese officials before my visit to Cairo on the outcome of the Egyptian Foreign Minister's visits, and I confirm that the atmosphere was positive," added al-Najari, noting that he would pursue these contacts following his return to Beirut.
