It is the Club Mega Fest and is happening this Saturday at Namboole stadium. On Tuesday, Sam Hooper, the brand manager of Club beer, took journalists on a site inspection tour of Namboole, to show them what Fenon Productions is setting up for the show. From the look of things, all that is left for one is to get those dancing shoes out of the closet and get ready to party for 12 hours, non-stop.
The stage was already up and running when we visited. The pavilion will serve as the VIP area. The pitch and open stand will cater for those holding ordinary tickets. It is the stage that leaves you with a ‘wow’ impression. It is set up in front of the tunnel that leads footballers onto the pitch. It is a two-in-one stage with a huge canopy covering it.
The stage rotates, with one ending up on top of the other. This will give the organisers an opportunity to have the next artiste ready on the lower stage as the other performs. This will definitely be a first. USA-based rapper Shaggy, Jamaica’s Patra, Nigeria’s wonder singer Burna Boy and South African duo Mafikizolo, who are the headliners, are already in the country.
So, there are no scares of them being a no-show like was the case in some previous concerts. A host of local artistes including Golden band, Chameleone, Bebe Cool, Sheebah, Pallaso and Khalifa are also lined up for the event. Galaxy FM’s Mosh and MC Kats will play masters of ceremonies while comedians Patrick Idringi, aka Salvado, and Alex Muhangi, aka Aleku, are tasked with cracking up the crowd.
Hooper also confirmed that over 1,000 fans have won tickets through the Mega Fest promotion that has been running in various bars and online. The regular police and the Anti-Terror squad will be on the grounds to ensure security. The midnight curfew rule set by KCCA is going to apply, though.
And don’t be duped into buying aance tickets for any after-party. Several bars have been announcing they will be hosting the official after-party, with Spenah beach promising to have Shaggy, Patra and Burna Boy on Sunday. The organisers have confirmed there is no such arrangement with the artistes, save for Mafikizolo who have a concert on Sunday at Serena hotel, courtesy of Club and MTN Uganda.
Namboole’s gates open at 9am and the party kicks off at midday. Entrance to the fest is Shs 20,000 (tickets to be sold at the gate) and VIP Shs 50,000.
