Deriv gets Gold accreditation by Investors in People

Deriv celebrates Gold accreditation success

Investors in People awarded Gold accreditation to Deriv

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, April 19, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Deriv, one of the leaders in the fintech industry, achieved We invest in people, gold accreditation. This is the first industry accolade received in 2023, one of its many goals this year.

Being awarded gold is a triumph and something only 17% of organisations that Investors in People (IIP) assess achieve. This accreditation is for 3 years. IIP celebrates companies that finetune their management style to demonstrate trust, motivate employees to improve skills and knowledge, and remain agile to change.

For Deriv the gold accreditation acknowledges the leadership approach, people practices, and culture of trust that the broker has strived to build in all its offices. Survey results reveal 80% of employees agree on solid people practices. They appreciate the empowering work culture which inspires them to be on their ‘A’ game and work their best.

The insights captured also indicate Deriv provides career advancement opportunities and cares about putting people first. Employees participate in innovation and transformation through a shift from small to big thinking about their work scopes, the business, and the industry.

Deriv Rwanda office celebrations

The shortlisting companies relies on three principles:

Leading: How much trust is there between employees and the leadership team? Do leaders live up to their values and inspire the right culture?

Supporting: Are the right structures in place so employees can do their job well? Are employees rewarded for doing well? And supported properly if they’re struggling?

Improving: Are there plenty of opportunities for employees to grow and develop? Is the company ready for any changes the future might bring?

The process:

  • IIP representative talks to the company, its employees, and what is the motive for achieving accreditation.
  • IIP sends out a survey to employees to see how they feel about working in the company and how well they are supported.
  • IIP conducts one-on-one interviews with employees and attends meetings to gain insight into the workplace.
  • The key findings are published in a report revealing the company’s failure or success in achieving the accreditation. The report also includes recommendations from IIP on the next steps for the company.
  • IIP creates an action plan for what changes the company should make over the accreditation period.

The accreditation positions Deriv in 1st ranking in the finance and insurance activities sector and 3rd ranking globally in the technology/IT sector. Rankings are for organisations with employee strength of 250–4,999.

A Investors in People concede acreditação Ouro à Deriv

Investors in People a décerné l’accréditation Gold à Deriv

DUBAÏ, Emirats Arabes Unis, 19 avr. 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Deriv, l’un des leaders de l’industrie fintech, a obtenu l’accréditation We invest in people, gold.

Reproductive Geneticists Gathered in Paris Present the First-Ever Whole Genome Sequencing Test in Embryos

  • Dr. Santiago Munné, a pioneer in preimplantation genetic diagnosis, presented the new test at the PGDIS Conference
  • The novel laboratory test will not only detect genes inherited from parents, but will also reveal new mutations that could lead to ‘de novo’ diseases such as autism

PARIS, April 18, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Dr. Santiago Munné, a pioneer in preimplantation genetic diagnosis, presented the first whole genome sequencing test in embryos before delegates at the 20th Conference of the Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis International Society (PGDIS), held this week in Paris.

In his plenary address attended by over 300 experts, Dr. Munné, an internationally recognized trailblazer in reproductive genetics, presented validation data for GenomeScreen™, the test developed by the research team he leads at the biotechnology firm GenEmbryomics.

“We have known since we started working with embryo diagnostics back in 1993 that embryo selection would be key to pregnancy, especially in older patients. Over the last 30 years, our work has been focused on improving genetic embryo selection, though the definitive diagnostic approach—the one that provides the most information and the best outcomes—will doubtless be this one: whole genome sequencing of the embryo using just a few cells obtained from a biopsy. This test will open doors that we never knew existed,” says Munné of the work done at GenEmbryomics.

To understand the genome is to know everything about an embryo before transfer
GenomeScreen™ is a revolutionary new whole genome sequencing test for IVF embryos that has been described as “the most complete genetic test in IVF” by authorities at the PGDIS forum.

The test provides highly precise information on the genome sequence of the embryo and the genetic parents, offering families key preimplantation insights on embryo health and reproductive prognosis that can inform their decisions. Furthermore, this information will be invaluable to individuals born from IVF, as it will provide input on nutrigenomics or guidance on which medicines are most genetically suited to the patient.

“When we first started our research on embryo sequencing, our goal was to create a powerful, comprehensive tool that could equip fertility physicians with exhaustive data for precision screening,” recalls Dr. Nick Murphy, founder of GenEmbryomics. “Now that we have this tool and use it with 99% reliability, we are aware that this diagnosis not only provides information, but also substantially enhances the success of reproductive medicine,” adds Murphy.

Embryo sequencing will increase IVF success rates

Professor Munné, whose career as a leader in reproductive genetics spans over 20 years, has made enormous contributions to embryo selection and IVF treatment. With this test, he and his team of researchers solidify the role of genetic testing within reproductive medicine, increasing treatment success.

“The findings presented at the conference are the validation data for a test that will change embryo selection as we know it,” according to Munné. “Preimplantation genetic analysis with whole genome sequencing is a giant step forward: among other things, it will tell us which embryo will implant successfully, because we will know beforehand which one is truly healthy—the one that is free of diseases inherited from the parents or de novo illnesses, such as autism,” he concludes.

About GenEmbryomics
Founded by Dr. Nick Murphy in 2019, GenEmbryomics is a cutting-edge biotech company specializing in the genomic analysis of embryos to determine the most viable candidates for IVF implantation. Their work will lead to higher success rates in IVF cycles, thanks to their proprietary algorithms offering more accurate and efficient embryo selection based on each embryo’s whole genome.

How Uganda’s Ghetto Kids won over dance judges

The founder of a Ugandan children’s group that has caused a sensation around the world for their dancing has spoken to the BBC about their stellar performance on the show Britain’s Got Talent.

Ghetto Kids received a standing ovation - and made history by becoming the first act to ever receive what is called the "Golden Buzzer" during their performance over the weekend.

Usually, it is only given at the end of show, but the judges could not contain themselves.

“What we did is just African comic dance... I think that’s what the judges loved. The energy and the comic way, our style - that’s what they loved and then the expression, the happiness is natural,” Daouda Kavuma told the BBC Newsday programme.

The footage of the group of young orphans dancing as golden confetti rained down on them made headlines around the world.

Mr Kavuma told the BBC that he started the group as way to help orphans and street children - giving them a home, food, some schooling and fun.

He said he himself had lived on the streets when he was orphaned as a child.

Setting up Ghetto Kids was a way of giving back to the society after he was helped by someone as street orphan.

“I got someone who helped me. He didn’t know me but helped me because of soccer," he said.

"Then there I promised one day I would help at least one child from the street."

He says the children love performing - and their performances have helped change the negative perceptions about street children in Uganda.

On Sunday, a Ugandan ministry congratulated the group and tweeted a video of their performance:

Minister recommends greater collaboration with Ombudsman

Angolan minister of Justice and Human Rights Marcy Lopes Wednesday in Luanda appealed to everyone to come together and cooperate with the Ombudsman's Office.

Speaking on behalf of the President João Lourenço at the opening ceremony of the Ombudsman Week, the minister said that the objective is to work so that this institution becomes increasingly stronger, active and known by citizens.

He also recalled that despite not having decision-making power over the requests and complaints addressed to the institution, it is the duty of the public authorities to cooperate in the pursuit of its purposes.

He added that public authorities should no “ignore the administrative intervention of the Ombudsman to clarify a situation that involves respect for the fundamental rights of people”.

In turn, the MP Raúl Lima, who was speaking in representation of National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, highlighted the reforms underway in the country, in terms of justice, which attach great importance to the Ombudsman, as a State body “that gives voice to voiceless”.

“It is our desire that the Ombudsman be an active body recognised for its usefulness to society”, he stressed.

The UNDP representative in Angola, Edo Stork, reiterated the commitment to continue collaborating and providing technical assistance to the Ombudsman in technically strengthening its team, sharing good practices and expanding its services.

The Ombudsman, Florbela Araújo, highlighted the sector's growth in recent years, which resulted from the recognition of the institution's importance to society.

She said that the Ombudsman is a public entity that was granted to serve the citizen in the defence of their rights and guarantees, as well as the legitimate interests against an incorrect or inadequate performance of the public services.

The week, which runs under the motto “The Ombudsman as a defender of citizens' fundamental rights”, will be marked, among other activities, by a cycle of lectures.

Ombudsman Week was institutionalised in 2018.

Today, 19 April, is also celebrated Ombudsman Day, in reference to the election and investiture of the first Ombudsman of the Republic of Angola.

Yatenga: A Consortium of associations offers saponification kits to 50 displaced women and host populations

The Consortium of the Alliance for the Protection and Education of Children and Youth-Association for the Promotion of Employment and Local Development (APEEJ-APEDEL) presented on Friday April 14, 2023 Ouahigouya, installation kits in soap production technique to fifty internally displaced women and host populations.

Coming from five villages that are Somiaga, Lilligomdé, Watinooma, Bogoya and the city of Ouahigouya, fifty internally displaced women received installation kits in soap production techniques after an 8-day training.

The objective of the training is to strengthen social cohesion and stabilize population flows through the prevention and management of conflicts in the commune of Ouahigouya.

The training was organized by the consortium of the Alliance for the protection and education of children and young people-Association for the promotion of employment and local development (APEEJ-APEDEL).

For the Coordinator of the APEEJ-APEDEL consortium, Pascal Parkouda, the security crisis has a negative impact on the lives of internally displaced women and host communities.

“The transitional authorities are stepping up actions to provide appropriate responses. It is in this sense that the consortium decided to build the capacities of these IDP women and the host populations in soap production techniques,” she said.

For Mr. Parkouda, the knowledge they acquired during the training can help them in their professional life if they put it into practice.

"With the kits they received this morning, I am convinced that they will not be unemployed", added the Coordinator of the APEEJ-APEDEL consortium.

According to the spokesperson for the beneficiaries, Zoenabou Zango, “We thank very much the initiators of this training. We are internally displaced but with the training we received during the 8 days and in addition the kits we just received this morning, I can reassure you that our suffering will be lessened”.

She invited all female beneficiaries (IDPs or hosts) to make good use of the knowledge and the installation kits obtained because, “even when they return home, it will be useful to us. May peace return to Burkina Faso”.

Pascal Parkouda, gave good advice to the beneficiaries and invited everyone to pray for peace to return to our country Burkina Faso.
