Women split over marital wealth

Soroti. Stakeholders championing the rights of land for women in Teso sub-region have disagreed over a proposal raised by mothers to have children born out of wedlock share land with children recognised under the customary law.
Ms Grace Akello, one of the proponents of the idea, during a land meeting for Teso sub-region in Soroti Town on Thursday said in a circumstance where a widow she must be given the right to distribute property in her custody among all her children.
However, another participant Ms Agnes Amito, opposed the proposal, saying a widowed wife produces more children outside the wedlock, she should delegate the welfare of those children to the new man.
