Water body, UNRA in Shs580m wrangle

Arua.

National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) in Arua Town is demanding Shs581 million from Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to relocate a water line connected on a section of a road that is under construction.

Government is tarmacking Cathedral Road, Mvara Protestant Cathedral Road and Weather Parkside Lane in Arua Town as part of a pledge by President Museveni.

The unresolved issue of water pipes at Weather Parkside Lane has stalled works on the section. UNRA Arua station manager Chris Opuch told Daily Monitor last weekend that the money being demanded by NWSC is not provided for under the presidential pledge.

The area water manager, Mr Badru Wandwasi, said they were following provisions of the Water Act. “These people are aware about these works of relocating pipes. This is not self-designed, and this money (Shs581 million) does not come to Arua office per say,” Mr Wandwasi said.
