Wasswa penalty rescues KCC from Police captivity

KCC 1-1 Police
Rwenshama 1-2 Express
Kira Young 0-1 Bul

KAMPALA. KCC were made to sweat until the 73rd minute when Herman Wasswa’s right foot saved the Yellow Boys from their opening day defeat in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) at Lugogo Stadium last evening. Wasswa’s well-taken penalty canceled Osman Mutumba’s 35th-minute smartly-struck half volley after coach George Nsimbe’s uninspiring KCC failed to deal with a corner from the right to ensure a 1-1 result.
“The first game is always difficult but we came back in the second half and played better,” said Nsimbe. Police coach Angelo Lonyesi argued: “We are not happy with the penalty decision. We should have won this game.”
KCC’s penalty was awarded after forward William Wadri was bundled over in the forbidden area by Siraje Ssevume.
The result at Lugogo ensured coach Lonyesi’s Police stayed top on four points after two games, with KCC ninth on a single point after one match in the 16-team league. Express went seventh on three points after first half goals from Eric Ssebuguzi and Isaac Sserunkuma saw them bounce back from their previous defeat to beat newly-promoted Rwenshama 2-1 in Mityana.
Moses Okello scored the home side’s consolation on 79 minutes.
