Widely tipped as one of the favourites to win the 201415 Uganda Premier League, Vipers FC will kickstart their campaign with a visit to Bombo barracks for the encounter against Army side Simba FC.
The 2010 league champions missed last weekend’s start while Simba are smarting from a 1-0 win against Entebbe FC on Saturday. Vipers’s freshness is likely to be reflected in coach Edward Golola’s team selection, with the likes of Allan Kyambadde, Sadam Juma, Siraje Ssentamu and Joseph Mpande all looking to impress in team’s midfield.
Vipers are yet to show-piece this season though their opponents Simba at home will be playing their second game y. However, all the talk surrounding the game revolves around the mysterious death of Simba defender Fahad Musana, who collapsed and died last Sunday while watching an English Premier League.
His demise left everyone at the club stunned, while messages of condolence poured in from all corners of the game. Perhaps the most poignant was the official postmortem that says the player died of pneumonia. Yet, despite the somber mood expected at Bombo, Vipers’s condolence message may come in form of rubbing salt in the wounded hearts.
Elsewhere, Uganda Cup holders URA FC, who came from behind to draw 1-1 against Bright Stars in Lugazi, will be away in Bugembe to play newly-promoted Sadolin FC. The debutants drew their opening fixture.
In Mityana, record league champions SC Villa will be looking at stretching their winning start when they entertain Lweza FC while Bright Stars will host Soana FC. Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) will take on Entebbe FC.
