Villa not carried away by log summit

Kampala. Sitting pretty at the Uganda Premier League (UPL) summit with six points after two games a position every ambitious team would want to be in.
Yet it can also be deceptive a bitter chalice especially if you rest on your laurels. Thankfully for SC Villa fans, coach and club legend Steven Bogere’s intelligence that stretches back to when he effortlessly orchestrated play in the middle for Villa and Cranes has not deserted him.
And Bogere knows that as they travel to Kavumba, Wakiso District to take on another unbeaten side in Police, league summit will count for little, and that it is just two games played, anyway.
“We are not getting carried away,” he says, “Yes we are on top and happy but it is only two games played.
“We remain focused because we are playing two games in two weeks and all these four games are tricky.”
Those next four games include away to Police today, at home to URA on Friday, away to Bul next Tuesday, and at home to bitter rivals Express next week Friday.
“But the trickiest of them for now is the game against Police,” adds Bogere, “Police is not an easy game and they have been together for a long time. But we are also a strong team. It will be an interesting game.”
His counterpart Angelo Lonyesi was left reeling after his side suffered a contentious penalty for KCC to claim a point in Police’s last outing.
“That was never a penalty and we should have won,” said Lonyesi, then, adding, “But we shall continue to improve in our next game and we hope poor decisions will not go against us.”
Villa will bank on in-form Karim Ndugwa for goals, the striker having scored two in two for his club, and was also among the goals as Uganda Cranes beat a Northern Select side 5-0 on Sunday.
