Uwera to appeal 20-year jail term

Jacqueline Uwera Nsenga on Wednesday filed a notice of intention to appeal against the 20-year jail sentence by the High Court.
A notice of appeal is a convict’s written notification to the trial court about the intention to challenge the judgment of in the higher court.
In this case, Uwera notified the High Court of her intention to challenge its judgment against her.

Uwera was sentenced by the High Court on Tuesday after finding her guilty of killing her husband Juvenale Nsenga by running over him with a car at their residence in Bugolobi last year.
The High Court has 14 days to sign the notice after which Ms Nsenga will take it to the Court of Appeal and thereafter file the substantive appeal.
She says the High Court judge Duncan Gaswaga’s failed to properly evaluate the evidence before him and as a result convicted her wrongly.
Uwera is represented by lawyers Mr Isaac Walukaga, Nsubuga Mubiru and Allan Sserulika.
