Ugandans in Tanzania for Oryx Rally


After winning the Race of Champions Sprint 10 days ago at Busiika, Duncan ‘Kikankane’ Mubiru leads two other Ugandan drivers to Tanzania.

The trio will participate in the Oryx Energy Rally of Tanzania this weekend. Shafik Ssemujju (Subaru N11) and Hajji Abdu Ssempebwa (Subaru N11) are the other drivers. The event is the fourth round of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC).

Mubiru, who left yesterday will drive a Subaru N14.“I have secured sponsorship for the East Africa ARC rounds. The car is already in Dar,” he explained to Daily Monitor. “The Busiika event was a perfect preparation for me. “This is a good opportunity for me to test myself against some top drivers in Africa.”

The top drivers include Gary Chanyes (Evo X) from Ivory Coast, who leads the ARC, Mohamed Essa (Subaru) from Zambia, a former ARC champion, Giancarlo Davite (Evo X) from Rwanda and Jaspreet Chatthe ( Evo X) from Kenya.

The event which has a total of 501.47km of which 237.55km spread over 16 competitive sections (CS), opens with a super special stage (SSS) of 1.45km on Friday. The event has attracted 21 drivers.
