Uganda set for regional scrabble

Kampala. After missing out on last year’s championship in Zambia, Uganda’s scrabble team will be hoping for a triumphant return when the eighth edition of East Central and South African Scrabble Championships (ECASA) gets underway today.
The tournament that has attracted close to 100 participants with 30 coming from the host nation (Uganda) will be played at Bilkon Hotel in Jinja.
“We have good players that can match anyone in the region,” said Scrabble Association of Uganda publicity secretary David Onai.
The country will rely on seed one Edwin Mugisha, who finished 12th in the 2013 edition played in Kenya.
Others on the team include captain and coach Richard Geria as well as Edgar Odongkara.
Last year’s winner, also Kenya’s seed two, Allan Oyende is expected to lead the Kenyan contingent at the event that has also attracted participants from Tanzania, Zambia South Africa and Gambia.
