Uganda Coach Sends Warning Shots

UGANDA coach Matia Lule has sent warning shots to his Zambian counterpart Chris Kaunda ahead of this weekend’s Niger 2015 Africa Junior Championship final round return match in Kampala.

Zambia heads into this encounter against the Ugandan Cubs to be played at the Nakivubo Stadium in Kampala on Saturday carrying a 2-0 lead from the first leg played at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

But Lule told the Ugandan New Vision newspaper that he was targeting at upsetting Zambia’s two-goal aantage.

Lule said he would apply new tactics which will see Uganda moving away from playing an entertaining game, as has been the case in the past qualifiers, in order to counter Zambia’s long ball approach.

The Uganda Cubs warmed up for Zambia by thrashing Makerere University football team 5-2 in a friendly match on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Zambia Under-17 soccer team goalkeeping coach Kalililo Kakonje has aised goalkeeper Danny Sikanyika against making silly mistakes that might cost the team the match.

Speaking ahead of the team departure today, Kakonje, a former Chipolopolo goalkeeper, said the coaching bench noted the mistakes made in the 2-0 win at Nkoloma Stadium but aised the players especially Sikanyika unnecessary bookings that might see him sent off. Kakonje said the players had been psychologically prepared to withstand the different tactics Uganda would try to employ during the match to frustrate the Zambian players.

Sikanyika’s delaying tactics earned him several warnings from the referee in the first leg. But Kakonje said the goalkeeper and the infield players were well prepared for the match.

“The mistakes made by the young man is something that not only a goalkeeper but every player goes through. He is maturing and we have had a length talk over the same. He admitted making silly mistakes in that game and I am positive it won’t happen again,” he said.

Delegation leader Lee Kawanu said the team will leave Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) around 15:00 hours aboard an Ethiopian flight ahead of the match to be played at Nakivubo Stadium in Kenya.
